Cosmos (1990-2005)
The night skies Van encountered in Narvik, within the Arctic Circle, on Japan's Yoron Island, and along the coast of Santa Monica left a lasting impression on his imagination.
Arches paper provided a surface through which he could give form to these experiences. Shapes and lines remain firmly integrated with the paper, while the vivid colors retain a remarkable clarity.
The vast night sky stretching beyond the horizon, and the seemingly infinite cosmos beyond it, continue to resonate throughout this series—evoking a sense of wonder that has remained vivid in the artist's imagination.
